For my interior project I have gathered research on existing products used in nightclubs to help me when designing my own furniture and making my final model. I have used pictures of existing nightclubs from the internet to help me design the layout of the nightclub and choose a suitable colour scheme to decorate it. I can also use these pictures to see how pieces of furniture are placed in a nightclub, for example chairs or stool near the bar or dance floors and spotlights.
Next, I looked for existing chairs and tables to help fill my nightclub with furniture and make it seem less empty. I looked for leather chairs and benches as I found these to be the most popular in nightclubs because they look the best and are expensive. I also found glass tables to look best in a nightclub environment since it lets light from the dance floor through and looks classy. Finally I found small, high stools suited bars the best because they don’t take up a lot of room.
Moving on I looked at wine glasses and bottle and found the bottles were all a similar shape so I couldn’t do much research into them, however I though the bottles with transparent wine in them looked the best. Wine glasses however, were in many different shapes and sizes and also came in many colours, but colourless, transparent glasses seemed to suit a nightclub better than coloured ones, as the coloured ones seemed too cheap and was made a plastic. Also, a martini shaped wine glass looked great because it would make the drinks in the glasses look expensive. Finally I looked at dance floors spotlights and speakers which will all go together in a corner of the nightclub. The dance floors I found varied from standard colored, square tiles to a wooden floor with decorative spotlights creating all the patterns using its light. Because lights with patterns on them would be difficult to model I went for the traditional tiled dance floor, since it looks pretty and can be modeled in 3DS max easily. The spot lights I found were mostly similar but the one I chose was one which could move around easily and suited my color scheme the best. Lastly, the speakers had to be really big as you would expect them to play music really loud in a nightclub; however the speakers I found were the best was the one which was big and looked as if it could fit neatly in the nightclub wherever I put it.
I could improve the way I get research by taking my own photos from nightclubs instead of getting them from the internet and also look at the popularity of each piece of furniture to see if people like that type of design.

Proposal

My project is to create an interior using 3Ds Max, and to choose a theme and style for my room. This is for unit 66 of the 3D modelling course and the keys aims of the unit are to practise our 3D skills by creating an interior with more than 10 different models in it. The deadline for the project is the 3^rd of December 2010.
I have chosen to make a nightclub as my interior complete with a dance floor, tables, chairs and a bar. It is going to be extremely colourful with a lot of different coloured light effects and is going to have over 13 different models. I have chosen this over my other ideas of an office and a police station since it is a lot simpler to create, because I can create it in any way I want and it will look a lot better than a dull office or police station.
I am going to submit my sketchbook with my mind map and all of my sketches and research of clubs that are in use now. Also, images of my finished work are going to be put on a DVD and handed in along with my 3D folder. I will receive feedback from my classmates while creating my interior and also my mentor, while creating the interior in class time.
I have used images of nightclubs and designer chairs and furniture to give me inspiration when designing my own nightclub, since I can take ideas from the best ones and put them together to create my own pieces of furniture.
I need 3Ds Max to complete my project since I need it to create all of the models in my interior and to create the interior itself. I also need access to the internet so I can gather research and inspiration to help when designing my interior. I could also download 3Ds Max at home, using my student number to get a free copy for 3 years, so I can work on it at home and therefore have more time to complete it.
I expect many problems to arise while working on the project. For example, the computer I am working on could crash and then most of the work I had done would be lost, which will waste a lot of time. To solve this I can save often, and also create a backup in case the computer totally crashes and I lose the save.
